Harrodsburg's 250th Anniversary Memorial

This monument honors several American Revolution patriots who served at or were laid to rest near Fort Harrod, the site of Kentucky’s first permanent American settlement. These brave men helped cast off the rule of a king and played a vital role in the birth of a free nation. Among those recognized are George Buchanan, Paul Froman, William Pogue, Thomas Prather, Lewis Rose, Garrett Terhune, Hugh Wilson, James Ray, and Mark McGohon. The memorial also acknowledges other frontier patriots whose final resting places remain unknown, including Colonel James Harrod, the fort’s namesake and an early leader in Kentucky’s settlement.

Placed on June 8, 2024, as the inaugural event in the city's 250th anniversary celebrations, this marker was dedicated through a partnership of the Colonel James Harrod Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Jane McAfee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Friends of Fort Harrod, James Harrod Trust, the Mercer County Community Endowment, and the Rowland Family Charitable Foundation. It stands as a lasting tribute to the pioneers and patriots who shaped the early American frontier and laid the foundations of the Harrodsburg community.
