James L. Isenberg Memorial Plaque

This memorial plaque, placed by The Society of Colonial Wars in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, honors James L. Isenberg (1881–1938), a prominent Harrodsburg civic leader and preservation advocate. Isenberg played a key role in the creation of Pioneer Memorial Park, which included the reconstruction of Fort Harrod, the first permanent settlement in Kentucky. His leadership helped preserve the region’s early frontier history, and the reconstructed fort later became part of today’s Old Fort Harrod State Park.

Remembered for his broad public service in civic, educational, and historical initiatives, Isenberg was celebrated by his community as an exemplary citizen whose efforts safeguarded Kentucky’s colonial heritage for future generations.
