DAR Memorial Acre

A Sacred Piece of Kentucky’s Pioneer History
Located within Old Fort Harrod State Park in Harrodsburg, Memorial Acre honors the earliest settlers of Kentucky and preserves what remains of the state’s first pioneer cemetery. Dedicated in 1930 by the Kentucky Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the site commemorates frontier men and women whose graves—many now weathered or unmarked—reflect the hardships and resilience of life on America’s early western frontier.
The cemetery served the community from the establishment of Fort Harrod in 1775 through the early 1800s, containing a variety of grave markers ranging from simple unlettered stones to early religious carvings. These resting places represent the region’s formative years and the enduring legacy of pioneers whose lives helped shape the destiny of Kentucky and the nation
